Understanding Lung Cancer - Causes, Symptoms, and Prevention

Lung cancer is a type of cancer that develops in the lungs and can be categorized into two types - primary lung cancer and metastatic lung cancer. Primary lung cancer occurs in lung cells, while metastatic lung cancer grows in blood vessels and lymphatic vessels.

Cause of Lung Cancer

The causes of lung cancer are diverse, but the most common cause is smoking. In fact, 70% of lung cancer patients are smokers. Secondhand smoke is another major cause, which means that non-smokers are also at risk of developing lung cancer. Additionally, family history, exposure to air pollution, asbestos, radon, arsenic, cadmium, nickel, radiation therapy, and HIV infection are also known to increase the risk of lung cancer.

Symptoms of Lung Cancer

The symptoms of lung cancer include shortness of breath, continuous coughing, chest pain, blood-mixed phlegm, rapid weight loss, severe headaches, bone pain, and feeling nauseous and vomiting.

Prevention of Lung Cancer

It is important to stop smoking and engage in regular aerobic exercise to increase immunity. Eating a healthy diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables can also help promote lung health.

Prevention is the best approach when it comes to lung cancer, and a healthy lifestyle is key. By quitting smoking, exercising regularly, and consuming nutrient-rich foods such as tomatoes, ginger, apples, radishes, asparagus, potatoes, broccoli, cabbage, spinach, and blueberries, you can reduce your risk of developing lung cancer. Remember, once lung cancer develops, it can be difficult to control, so prevention is always better than cure.
